How Helping Another Helped Me

Janet Shelter – Alumni (’78) Irwin, OH

When the pandemic hit, a single mom who singlehandedly runs the Amish Heritage Country Market in Marysville, Ohio, was hospitalized with COVID. Unexpectedly, she had to shut down for at least a week. When she reopened, she was still weak and struggling with breathing issues. I became aware of her difficulties since she is a member of our church, so decided to help out by volunteering at the market on the busiest day each week. I wasn’t necessarily looking for anything to do, but found I really enjoyed the work. It’s been a surprising blessing for me to get out of the house and interact with customers at the market every week.
