Older Stable Leaders
Last Wednesday night students joined a panel of staff and faculty to discuss how Christians think about and utilize Artificial Intelligence. As I write this article, one of our students is flying a drone around the yard, hovering over studying students. Across campus, sounds of construction fill the air as workers erect dorm walls and trusses built in a factory.
Many of the ways we live in the world are changing. Furthermore, they are changing at a speed that can leave us feeling whiplash. I’m struck by the centering reality of a God who does not change. The writer of Hebrews reminds us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Heb. 13:8) This is a profound comfort as we chart new territories, particularly in the arena of technology. The writer says something else to us that is profound in a chaotic time, “Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s work to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.” (Heb. 13:7) In seasons of tumult and change, we look to older, stable leaders who have proven their faith over time. I’m grateful for older people of God in my life and our hope is that students can see the stabilizing grace of Jesus in the lives of staff and faculty at RBC.
One Response
One of the things I am learning is that I need to find a balance of seeing what He did/said and what He is doing /saying. As Jesus frequently would model, “I only do what I see the Father doing”. We can learn from the past moves of God, but The Great I Am (not I was) will be who He will be. So, I will look and listen to see what He is doing and saying and seek to do what He asks in this Walk of Faith. He remains Faithful!
