The Two-Year Degree
Associate in Biblical Studies

The two–year degree program is designed to develop the core components of biblical understanding, a biblical worldview, global vision and commitment to evangelism. The program provides students with a balanced sequence of courses from the three major course divisions: Biblical/Theological, Church/Vocational and General studies. Eight different concentrations also include development of various relevant skills in specific areas of focus.

Core Requirements. To receive a two-year associate’s degree, students are required to take the following courses:

Biblical/Theological Core Requirements 24 Hours
1. Principles of Biblical Interpretation 3
2. New Testament Survey 3
3. Old Testament Survey 3
4. Survey of Bible Doctrine I or Survey of Bible Doctrine II 3
5.* Christian Ethics or Spiritual Formation 3
6. New Testament or Old Testament Elective 3
7. Christian Apologetics or Introduction to World Religions 3
8.* Peace, Justice and Simplicity or Mennonites, Anabaptists, and the Radical Reformation 3
*Students must take either Ethics or Peace, Justice and Simplicity.

General Education Core Requirements 18 Hours
1. Composition 3
2. Public Speaking 3
3. History of Western Civilization or History of Christianity I or History of Christianity II 3
4. Introduction to Humanities or Introduction to Philosophy 3
5. Introduction to Psychology or Introduction to Sociology 3
6. College Algebra or Business Mathematics 3

Open Electives 6 Hours
Students may select any two courses that do not already satisfy any other requirement.

Area of Concentration 12 Hours**
To complete the requirements, select one of the eight areas of concentration listed below.

Pastoral Studies

15 Hours**
1. Preaching the Biblical Text 3
2. Introduction to Counseling 3

5. Supervised Formation 3

Theology

12 Hours
1. Survey of Bible Doctrine I or Survey of Bible Doctrine II 3

Youth Ministries

5. Supervised Formation 3

General Studies

12 Hours
1. Choose any four courses as electives 12

**The Missions, Pastoral Studies, and Youth Ministries areas of concentration require an additional three hours in supervised formation. The supervised formation component includes supervision of personal spiritual and ministry experiences. The Music and Worship concentration requires an additional two hours of chorale.
